  • Reserve space for this adult individual and any accompanying to attend a Turtle Dig led by the Friends of the Carr Refuge at the Barrier Island Center.

Registration is closed

Learn about sea turtle nesting on the most important nesting beach in North America.  Conditions permitting, you will observe the contents of a recently emerged nest.  When available, we will release rescued hatchlings during these events.

More than 17,000 Loggerhead nests have been counted in the 20.5 miles of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge so far in 2016.  The Green Turtles started a little later and their numbers are over 500 already.  Spend an hour with us and observe a turtle nest where the eggs hatched just a few days before our visit.

Each adult should register separately and indicate the number of accompanying children.  The registration fee for adults is $5 each;  no charge for accompanying children under 18).

Our Mission Statement:  “To promote the conservation of sea turtles and natural resources of the Archie Carr NWR and engage in such educational, scientific partnership and civic activities as will support the mission of the refuge.”
